The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features a few key changes:

  • Each team has just 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by real players award full XP, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for players seeking different ways to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and another lists everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
