The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Season on BBC
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part series written by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The previous season concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came this week.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a offender.
However, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, plot details hinted.
In a statement, the creator said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty premiered in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful television series of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.
Broadcasters has not yet announced when the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of series six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
