That Gory Cartoon Movie Ending That Haunts Viewers
Out of every mature cartoon movies I’ve ever watched, no other has stuck with me as much as the terror-laced conclusion of the explicitly bloody as well as highly provocative 2022 movie The Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, the Spain-based writer-director crafted a grim, somber and often savage universe that included several minor , forlorn twinges of optimism.
While Unicorn Wars seems like it came from a drive to expand the medium further, the director explained that it was rather an attempt to communicate a widespread, cross-cultural message regarding “the common origin of every conflict.”
That message is communicated via a band of brightly hued teddy bears , clearly inspired by a well-known line of lovable figures.
Being raised in a culture focused on militarism as well as the defense industry, numerous the bears are obsessed with slaughtering unicorns, because of a religious scripture which states them they used to be rulers of the forest, until these creatures forced them out.
Some did not entirely fallen for the brainwashing, , would rather try out drugs or mate in the forest.
Unlike their friendly equivalents, these vivid animals display sexual organs and clear sex drives.
For one especially vicious, pessimistic creature, the character Bluey, the battle with unicorns turns into a road to power — and particularly to authority above his softer, kinder brother Tubby.
Bluey acts as a tormentor , an obvious sociopath , and when terror takes over his squad and takes his fellow soldiers one by one, he takes increasingly influence personally, in increasingly bloody, harmful methods.
Meanwhile, the unicorns are enduring their own nightmare, in the form of an expanding, harmful creature in their woods.
“In the early stages, it feels like a humorous movie,” the director said. “Yet it turns into a more intense and melancholic film. And ultimately, it transforms into a horror film.”
The Unicorn Wars begins similar to among the playful films from a legendary filmmaker, that discover a mischievous joy in permitting animated figures swear, fire weapons, or sex each other up.
Subsequently it evolves into closer to a more grim movie by that same creator, including ever more visual gore , a noticeable link to the actual horror of battle.
In the finale, it is a full-on theatrical horror carnage.
The terror that turns this a perfect Halloween viewing starts much sooner than indicated.
The Unicorn Wars is suited for the devoted fans of gore, for fans of intense movies who want to watch a film they have not viewed until now, and who can handle a plot that pulls absolutely no punches.
View it in a dimly lit space with no disturbances, and that ending will dig under your skin and linger.
