Shocking Footage Reveals Instant Police Get Knifed in Surprise Attack
One police sergeant who rushed to the aid of a partner who was ambushed by a blade-wielder received the Royal Recognition for Courage.
Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he pressed a knife to the throat of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the policemen and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver subsequent to a traffic accident in Whalley Range in July 2023.
Brown knifed and cut both Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.
"Policeman attacked," the officer could be heard saying over his radio.
Officer-mounted and vehicle camera video made public by the force showed Brown, that was clothed in black with a hood up, rush to Sgt Foster from the rear with a knife pointed forward.
He collided with the officer who lost balance and went down to the pavement, after which Sergeant Ansell intervened and tried to wrestle him to the floor even though being multiple times hit with the blade.
Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and waited for a safe opportunity, ending the confrontation to an end.
Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "Can I get assistance on my throat here, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sgt Ansell suffered multiple deep cuts to his throat and further injuries to his arms and body, whereas Sergeant Foster received cut injuries.
Officials reported Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to stem his fellow officer's blood loss before emergency responders came.
This most recent honor comes after the three officers received internal Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the police federation award from the regional union branch in spring 2024.
They further earned a Regional Valor Recognition in July 2024.
"The responses of each policeman in the end saved one another and ensured no bystanders endured any injuries."
Brown was sentenced to an secure medical confinement in early 2024, according to authorities.
