LA Dodgers Hold On in Toronto to Force Winner-Take-All Game 7 in Fall Classic

The World Series is going to a final Game 7 after the Los Angeles Dodgers kept their repeat hopes alive on Friday with a 3–1 win over the Blue Jays in Game 6.

The defending champions ended Toronto’s late-game comeback with a thrilling final twin killing, silencing a home audience that had arrived prepared to cheer the team's first title in over three decades.

Sixth Game Summary

The Dodgers produced all of their offense in the third inning. With two away, Ohtani was purposely passed before Smith hit a two-bagger to left to score Edman. Freeman drew a walk to fill the bases, and Betts came through with a two-run single to left, handing the Dodgers a 3–0 lead.

That key hit broke a postseason slump and revived the defending champions’ hopes of being the first repeat championship victors since the Yankees captured three consecutive from 1998 to 2000.

Mound Duel

Kevin Gausman had been nearly unhittable to that point, fanning six of the initial seven batters he faced. He fanned 8 through three innings, matching a World Series record, but the third-frame rally proved costly. The Blue Jays' star finished with 8 Ks over six innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits and two free passes.

Yamamoto, meanwhile, was solid again under stress. The righty outdueled his counterpart for the second time in a seven days, allowing a single run on five hits over six frames with six strikeouts. He boosted his record to 4–1 this postseason with a 1.56 ERA.

The lone score against him came on Springer’s two-out base hit in the third inning, driving in Addison Barger, who had hit a double earlier in the inning. Springer’s hit provided a brief spark in his comeback to the lineup after sitting out two games with an oblique injury.

Bullpen Heroics

From there, the Los Angeles relievers took over. First-year pitcher Wrobleski got out of a tight spot in the seventh, and fellow rookie Sasaki worked into the ninth before plunking Alejandro Kirk to open the frame. Addison Barger then hit a double that got stuck under the left-center-field fence, forcing base runners to hold at second and third base.

Glasnow, Los Angeles’ Game 3 starter, came on in relief and induced a popout before Andrés Giménez hit a line drive to left. Hernández caught the ball and threw to second base to retire the runner, clinching the victory and earning Glasnow his first-ever successful save.

Next Up: Seventh Game

The series now comes down to one game. Max Scherzer will take the mound for Toronto, becoming the sole active hurler to pitch in more than one seventh games of the World Series after doing so in the 2019 season with Washington. The 40-year-old inked a single-season contract to chase another championship and has been a vocal leader throughout this postseason.

The Dodgers, aiming to become the sport's first back-to-back champions in almost 25 years, are projected to rely on their two-way star for a short outing.
