Keely Hodgkinson Wraps Up Season with Winning Display at Athlos in New York
The athlete recorded her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in the British capital.
The Olympic champion concluded her two-lap season with a triumph at the women-only Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.
{The current Olympic gold medallist, who earned bronze at the global championships last month, excelled in an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a season affected by a muscle issue.
Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Bell finished second once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) claimed third.
"I've barely raced this year so it was probably less of a struggle for me to go out there and want to give it something," said the 23-year-old.
"The environment out there is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."
The female-exclusive meet filled the stadium in its second year, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing standard medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was present to present the victors with their tiaras.
Last year's winners took home sixty thousand dollars (Β£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The event also drew several top athletes, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon won the mile, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.
American Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, won the sprint double.
