A high-ranking Russian general has been fatally wounded following an explosion in Moscow, according to reports from authorities.

The event happened on Monday morning when an IED placed beneath a vehicle was set off, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' operational training department.

Authorities indicated that one theory under investigation involves the possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. At this time, Ukraine has offered no public response.

Site of the Attack

Teams have been sent to the site, which is understood to be in a southern district of the capital.

Accounts suggest the blast occurred in a vehicle lot close to a residential building.

Series of Assaults

Since the beginning of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a number of Russian military officials have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.

This new event comes after other notable incidents, such as:

  • General Yaroslav Moskalik was lost his life in a automobile blast in Moscow earlier this year.
  • General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a bomb hidden on a scooter was triggered from afar.

While a informant previously linked Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such claims are not officially confirmed as a matter of official stance.

Hostilities has been marked by clandestine operations reaching into the heart of the Russian capital.

The probe into General Sarvarov's death remains underway.
